Holy Rood has a very committed body of staff who work hard and creatively, together, to provide a very high standard of learning experience for every young person at the school. There has also been a significant increase in the number of pupils achieving awards at level 3 and above in English and Mathematics from 87% to 94%.
Holy Rood is an inclusive school which respects the dignity of the individual and firmly puts the child at the centre. The school is successful both in terms of pupil attainment and pupil achievement and strives to ensure every pupil is supported in reaching his/her potential in both areas. The school has in place successful strategies to meet the requirements of pupils with additional support needs, including our gifted and talented students.
The school’s success is not taken for granted and so it has a strong focus on the improvement agenda. Recent development work in the areas of Formative Assessment and Personal Learning Planning leaves the school well-placed to embark upon the implementation of A Curriculum for Excellence.
The school has a strong sense of community and has worked hard to achieve very productive links with its cluster primary schools, Further Education Colleges, local businesses and a variety of other community partners. This is reflected in the programme of opportunities for personal development the school offers its pupils, and for which it receives well deserved acclaim.
Holy Rood has a strong belief in the principle of collegiality and in distributive leadership. All members of staff at Holy Rood are expected to embrace the school’s culture which values the positive impact on pupils of a true collegiate approach and a willingness of all staff (and pupils) to accept leadership across the board.
